SONG 31  THANK YOU
by the Katinas

Today is day 31! TYJ!!! It has been refreshing to spend some time worshiping Jesus and having you follow alongside me. The challenge was hard at times but rewarding in my heart. Thank you for meeting me here every day. I’m not sure what comes next but you can sign up to receive email updates from my blog. I’d love to hear from you, sharing what God is doing in your life.

So here is song 31 – Just a simple song that is really a prayer. The first time I heard “Thank You” I was in the car with my radio playing, listening but not really listening; sorta preoccupied. Then when the song came to: “Here I am, with all I have, raise my hands to worship You, I want to say thank you…”  I was all ears. You can’t hit replay on the radio, so I couldn’t wait to get home and find it on my computer.

I love the times when I’m alone with my Lord and I just want a little bit longer to stay in the secret place with HIM. I’m so thankful that HE loves me. I don’t want to  forget all the needs HE has met. HE is with me when I’m down, holding me. HIS love is really amazing. It has changed me. I want to have a thankful heart!

We all know “Amazing Grace.”  In these lyrics, it speaks of amazing grace being more than a song. That is so true. HIS grace looks beyond my fault and HE shows me mercy.

So here I am, Lord,  with all I have raising my hands to worship You.
Thank you for loving me.
Thank you for holding me.
Thank you for changing me.
Thank you for touching my heart.
I want to say THANK YOU!

Just a little while longer I want to pray │ can’t get You off my mind so I came to say │ thank You Lord, just for loving me, alright │ many times I do forget │ every need that You have met │ oh thank You Lord, I know You’re showing me │ You are there when I am down and out │ You’re holding me, Your love is so amazing │ oh it changed me

Here I am with all I have │ raise my hands to worship You │ I want to say thank you, oh thank you │ for everything, for who You are │ You cover me, You touch my heart │ I want to say thank you

I could have died in my sin but You saved me │ didn’t have any hope at all │ You gave me peace divine, strength to carry on │ I should have been the one to pay │ but instead You took my place │ amazing grace, it’s more than just a song │ even though I don’t deserve Your love for me │ You look beyond my fault and You showed me mercy

SONG 30   RESCUE
by Desperation Band

I know this is an older song, but it always brings me into God’s presence. I think when we worship with lyrics that speak to the heart of God, He comes close and He stays around. I recognize that I need JESUS more than anything this world has to offer. No one else will do.

Listen to these words. “My heart is Your’s for life. I need Your hand in mine. There’s no other Name by which I’m saved. I will follow You.” All of these words are spoken to Jesus. That’s what I love about my life in God. This world has nothing for me. When I chose to live for the Lord, it was for life! No turning back… (that’s another song)

You are the source of life │ I can’t be left behind │ No one else will do │  I will take hold of You

I need You, Jesus to come to my rescue│  where else can I go? │ there’s no other Name by which I am saved │ capture me with grace │ I will follow You

My heart is Yours for life │ I need Your hand in mine │ No one else will do │ Lord,  I put my trust in You

I need You, Jesus to come to my rescue │ Where else can I go? │ There’s no other Name by which I am saved │ Capture me with grace │ I will follow You

My heart is Yours for life │ I need Your hand in mine │No one else will do │ Lord, I put my trust in You

I need You, Jesus to come to my rescue│  where else can I go? │ there’s no other Name by which I am saved │ capture me with grace │ I will follow You

This world has nothing for me (I will follow You)

 praise YOU in the storm

SONG 29  PRAISE YOU IN THE STORM

There was a time when this song stayed on repeat. I would play it over and over. Again and again. During the hard times in my life. When my youngest son was wrecking his life with drugs and alcohol, and I wondered if he would even live past the age of 25. I would remember that his past would be part of his testimony, before surrendering his life to Jesus. When my heart was broken and I felt like change would never come. Even now when my heart is overwhelmed by circumstances I have no control over, I remind myself, He is worthy to be praised!

Have you ever been in that place? Victory was nowhere in sight? No light at the end of the tunnel? When days move into weeks, then months become years? Keep praising Him! Even if it’s still raining and wind is getting stronger, keep praising Him! He will whisper, “I’m with you. I’m right here by your side. You are not alone. We will get through this together.”

I can say all of this, not because I’m repeating lyrics to a song. I can say this because I’ve experienced first hand the closeness of my Savior. I’ve never walked alone through the storms of life. My help comes from the Lord. He will come and walk with you today if you will cry out to Him.

I was sure by now │ God You would have reached down │ and wiped our tears away  │ stepped in and saved the day │ but once again, I say “Amen” and it’s still raining

As the thunder rolls │ I barely hear Your whisper through the rain │ “I’m with you” │ and as Your mercy falls │ I raise my hands and praise the God who gives and takes away

And I’ll praise You in this storm │ and I will lift my hands │ for You are who You are │ no matter where I am │ and every tear I’ve cried You hold in Your hand  │ You never left my side  │ and though my heart is torn  │ I will praise You in this storm

I remember when I stumbled in the wind │  You heard my cry to you │ and you raised me up again │ my strength is almost gone │ how can I carry on if I can’t find You

But as the thunder rolls │ I barely hear Your whisper through the rain │ “I’m with you” │ and as Your mercy falls │ I raise my hands and praise the God who gives and takes away

And I’ll praise You in this storm │ and I will lift my hands │ for You are who You are │ no matter where I am │ and every tear I’ve cried You hold in Your hand │ You never left my side │ and though my heart is torn │ I will praise You in this storm

I lift my eyes unto the hills │ where does my help come from? │ my help comes from the Lord │ the Maker of Heaven and Earth

And I’ll praise You in this storm │ and I will lift my hands │ for You are who You are │ no matter where I am │ and every tear I’ve cried You hold in Your hand │ You never left my side │ and though my heart is torn │ I will praise You in this storm

SONG 28  FIND ME

Where do you want Jesus to find you when He returns? I pray He finds me waiting for Him. Like these lyrics, I pray He finds me with a heart of gratitude and thankfulness. I pray He finds me singing to Him with a heart of worship. I pray He finds me surrendered to HIS grace. I pray He finds me telling others of His love for them. I pray He finds me ready and watching for Him.

Recently, I came across these numbers: In the New Testament’s 260 chapters, Christ’s return is mentioned no less than 318 times. I didn’t try to find all of them, but I know that His return is mentioned many times.  Make no mistake about it: Jesus Christ will come back again, and God has given us specific instructions for what we are to do while we wait. Here are a few things:

  1. Ready and Watching:  “The servants who are ready and waiting for his return will be rewarded.” (Luke 12:37 NLT) If you are living a life that is not pleasing to the Lord right now, you will be shocked or surprised when He comes.
  2. Become more like Jesus:  “You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him.” (2 Peter 3:11-12a, 14) Enough said.
  3. Working:  Finally, we should be working.  “If the master returns and finds that the servant has done a good job, there will be a reward.” (Luke 12:43)  Watching for the Lord’s return will help us prepare our own lives, but working will assure that we will take others with us.

These are just a few a scriptures about the Lord’s return and how we can be ready and encourage others to do the same. I do want you to be ready. I pray the Lord Jesus finds you Ready. Watching. Becoming more like Him. Working.

I fall down upon the ground │ press my face against the earth │ till my heart, it rises over my head │ as the wheat, it bows down low │ when the autumn wind blows │ I kneel before the One I love

Find me grateful │ find me thankful │ find me on my knees │ find me dreaming │ find me singing │ find me lost in Your grace

Like the dust that You first held  │  in a garden where You knelt │ pull me up against Your face again │ till the breath of Your hope │ fill the depths of my soul │ till all I know is I’ve been found by love

Find me grateful │ find me thankful │ find me on my knees │ find me dreaming │ find me singing │ find me lost in Your grace

SONG 27  O COME TO THE ALTAR

Everyone has experienced a broken, hurting heart. We’ve all been weighed down by the heaviness of sin. I’m sure you’ve felt like you’ve come to the end of yourself. You just can’t go on much longer. Do you need a drink from the well? He’s waiting. Stop. Listen. Jesus is calling. His arms are open wide.  Ask for forgiveness, so He can cleanse you.

We all have regrets and mistakes. Jesus is calling. There is now reason to wait. He has the best trade-in deals around. Give Him your sorrow and He gives you joy!  What an exchange.  He is truly wonderful. Tell everyone of the treasure you’ve found in JESUS!

Are you hurting and broken within │ overwhelmed by the weight of your sin │ Jesus is calling │  have you come to the end of yourself  │ do you thirst for a drink from the well  │ Jesus is calling

O come to the altar │ the Father’s arms are open wide │ forgiveness was bought with │ the precious blood of Jesus Christ

Leave behind your regrets and mistakes │ Come today there’s no reason to wait │ Jesus is calling │ bring your sorrows and trade them for joy │ from the ashes a new life is born │ Jesus is calling

Oh what a Savior │ isn’t He wonderful │ sing alleluia │ Christ is risen │ bow down before him │ for he is Lord of all │ sing alleluia │ Christ is risen

Bear your cross as you wait for the crown │ tell the world of the treasure you’ve found

Song 26  Shackles (Praise You)
Erica Campbell / Tina Campbell (Mary Mary)

Nothing like the beat of music like this to get your feet moving. Okay, so it’s an old song, but every time I hear it, it gets me started. Gotta love that praisin’ sound.  You need to respond to what you are singing, so if the shackles fall off your feet, you need to dance and praise Him! If you no longer have chains on your hands, you need to lift them and praise Him. Yes… praise Him through your circumstance. I’m sure you have been there… everything that could go wrong went wrong. Pressures so great, you thought you’d lose your mind. He wants us to trust Him and hold on through these trials. When you think you can’t go on any longer, He breaks the chains. He was with you in the fire and the rain. He breaks the chains.

The story behind the writing of “Shackles”: For even the most brilliant wordsmiths, the frustrating phenomena of writer’s block can bring the creative process to a halt. But for Erica and Tina Atkins of Mary Mary, an encounter with writer’s block didn’t prove to be detrimental. In fact, with a little patience and persistence, their bout led to the soulful sounds of their 2001 Dove signature song “Shackles (Praise You)” from their Grammy Award-winning album Thankful. Erica’s husband, Producer Warryn Campbell’s studio was “kind of like a little side room connected to the house directly next to the garage,” Tina recalls, “and we were trying to write and trying to write, and nothing was coming.” So after a couple of hours with no ideas translating from pen to paper, Campbell left to take a shower, and the girls retreated to another part of the house. When Campbell returned to the makeshift studio, he had an epiphany of sorts and began to sing the harmonies that eventually became “Shackles.” While the song, a modern-day account of the children of Israel in bondage but set free, was originally written for The Prince of Egypt soundtrack, the duo liked it so much they decided to keep it for their own album. Tina says the tune relates the Exodus story in a contemporary way, addressing bondage people have in their lives—whether it’s bad relationships or the stresses of family and work.

Take the shackles off my feet so I can dance │ I just want to praise you │ I just want to praise you │ You broke the chains now I can lift my hands │ and I’m gonna praise you │  I’m gonna praise you

In the corners of mind I just can’t seem to find a reason to believe that I can break free │ cause you see I have been down for so long, feel like the hope is gone │ But as I lift my hands, I understand that I should praise you through my circumstance

Take the shackles off my feet so I can dance │ I just want to praise you │ I just want to praise you │ You broke the chains now I can lift my hands │ and I’m gonna praise you │ I’m gonna praise you

Everything that could go wrong all went wrong at one time │ So much pressure fell on me, I thought I was gon lose my mind │ But I know you want to see if I will hold on through these trials │ But I need you to lift this load │ cause I can’t take it anymore

Take the shackles off my feet so I can dance │ I just want to praise you │ I just want to praise you │ You broke the chains now I can lift my hands │ and I’m gonna praise you │  I’m gonna praise you

Been through the fire and the rain │ bound in every kind of way │ but God has broken every chain │ so let me go right now

Take the shackles off my feet so I can dance │ I just want to praise you │ I just want to praise you │ You broke the chains now I can lift my hands │ and I’m gonna praise you │  I’m gonna praise you
